Michael Jackson RIP June 25, 2009

Michael Joseph Jackson
August 29, 1958 - June 25, 2009

June 25, 2009 marked a sad day in history for all of us. We woke up somberly to the news that Farrah Fawcett had passed after a three year battle of cancer and ended our day with devastating news that the King of Pop had suffered from a heart attack late Monday afternoon. After 40 years of entertainment, we are grateful, confused and sad for this loss. Here is a time line of his life:

1968 The Jackson Five was signed by Motown Records
1972 The Jackson Five recorded 14 albums (and MJ made his first solo album this year)
1976 The Jackson Five signed to Epic, (name chage to The Jacksons)
1979 Jackson joined Quincey Jones to release Off The Wall (his first album with Epic and his first solo album as an adult recording artist)
1982 Thriller Album was released. It was a smash hit and yielded seven top-ten singles. The album sold 21 million copies in the United States and at least 27 million worldwide.(The album made history as the
first and only album to be America’s top-selling album two years running.)
1983 Year of the "moonwalk" dance.
1987 Release of Bad.
1991 Signed Sony Music and released Dangerous.
1993 Accused of sexually abusing a 13-year-old boy, and police raided his California ranch “Neverland.” Cancelled his world tour due to addicitons.
1994 reached a settlement that later reported to be $23 million, with the family of the boy he was accused of abusing. That year he also marreid Lisa Marie Presley.
1996 Divorced Lisa Marie and married Debbie Rowe, had two children.
1997 Prince Michael I (born in 1997),
1998 Paris Michael and Prince Michael II
1999 Divorced Debbie Rowe
2003 Jackson reportedly had sleepovers wiht young boys.
2005 went on trial for his alleged allegations. Four months later he was acquitted of all charges.

Since then Jackson has spent time in Bahrain, Ireland and France. He was scheduled to start a world tour July 13, 2009.
Jackson dies on June 25, 2009.
Jackson’s lifetime record sales tally is believed to be about 750 million, which, added to the 13 Grammy Awards he has received, makes him one of the most successful entertainers of all time.

80's Prom Party

Most of us would concur that the single decade with the most hair horror stories has got to be the 80's thus far. You'd be hard pressed to find a Prom pic from that time where the updo didn't resemble road kill. And you know it's true. The dresses were true casualties as well.

But that doesn't mean the 80's didn't offer up some awesomeness in the music department! I refuse to dance as a general rule, but get me to a wedding or barmitzvah and I am good to go, namely because 80's music is so totally utterly danceable!

So you can bet that I'll be hitting up the 80's Prom Party at the House of Blues in West Hollywood next month. If you're in Southern California, I suggest you do the same as 100% of the $30 entry fee goes toward supporting local animal rescues.

If you don't live in California, why not host your own themed charity ball?! A costume party is never a bad idea.

What's Your Shade?

If you're one of those people who feverishly collect color swatches of perfect shades for you hair, nails, linens, whatevs, the iPhone has the best new ap made just for you! Just snap a pic of anything that moves you and the ben Color Capture app will match the colors to corresponding shades by

Now you can paint your walls the exact same color as those insane hot pink retro heels you found, but couldn't afford, when you were at that overpriced vintage store last weekend. You may have varying degrees of success getting your hairstylist to work off paint chips though.

Viral Media Finally Pays Out.

If you are fan of Travis Barker and DJ AM, here is some news for you! Viral Marketing has its advantages for companies worldwide, but what does the average consumer who pushes those viral campaigns actually get in return? Nothing, as of yesterday but that changed when Travis Barker and DJ AM comined their Twitter Power and will give you a free download to their "Fix Your Face Vol. 2 - Coachelle' 09" Mix in exchange for one tweet!

Now that's a tweeterific deal!

Everything from a Bridesmaid dress to a casual night out, this dress is the answer to all your financial problems at Two Birds Bridesmaid. The trick to staying sassy this summer is being chic without too much effort. I am not one for mixing and matching so I find this dress to be a godsend. With 8 different styles you'll never get sick of it. Sure, American Apparel has a similar dress but no one can compete with the sheer elegance of Two Birds.

Got Feith?

So if y'all knew me better you'd know my calendar is always marked and set for the debut of Target's Go International Collections. I love love love getting high-end designers on the cheap. And this past Sunday's launch of
Tracy Feith for Target was no exception, I was ready to shop! But alas painting my living room caused me to miss opening day. And then chaos at work caused me to pick a relaxing pedi over shopping last night. So today, immediately after work. I am so there! Picking up that adorable pink sundress. Hi all,

Facebook Fans

So what do you think of the new facebook? I'm affectionately dubbing it as Twitterbook and it appears I am one of the few who actually appreciate its constant feed of updates and the way in which it allows you to elevate your own self imporatance on a regular basis.

Say "Bye Bye" to the Bob!

Fashionista's can stay ahead of the game with the Hair Trends of 2009 Guide. In 2008, Suri Cruise had everyone chopping their locks but a year later, longer is stronger. Accessorize your locks with a floral or patent leather headband to accentuate your spring wardrobe! Long hair can accommodate any face shape and body; here are couple options to try:

- Straight and Sleek
- Mermaid/ 1940's Waves with Side-Part
- Loose Curls and Waves
- Braids
- Long and Flowing

Academy Awards 2009!

Okay, so how amazing were the Oscars this year? As an award show junkie, I can say with some level of authority that this year's Academy Awards were better then they have been in years. Now, lets get down to it.

There were definitely some big hits and even bigger misses.

Angelina Jolie looked amazing in black with stunning emerald jewelry and her sophisticated loose waves. Anne Hathaway rocked the red carpet in gold with a pretty bun. Tina Fey stunned with her gold form fitting dress and my fave awards show hairstyle, the side bun. Jennifer Aniston did what she does best with long beachy waves and a gold dress. Meryl Streep looked regal as always. Taraji P. Henson looked sleek and sophisticated with her short bob. And finally, Amy Adams looked great with her sleek bun and side swept bangs.

Now, the misses. And boy were there some misses. Melissa Leo's frock and hair did nothing for her, and made her look years older than she is. Kate Winslet missed the mark tonight. The stunning actress who usually looks fabulous in everything she walks down the red carpet in, looked boring in her grey gown and even more boring hairstyle! Evan Rachel Wood looked great from the shoulders down, but heavy eye makeup and a prom up-do ruined her top half. Finally, Tilda Swinton's blond hair totally washed her out.

Check out other Oscar arrivals in Yahoo's Oscar arrival gallery.

Grammy Awards 2009

Hey there everyone!

Things got a little crazy with school in the last couple of weeks, but don't think I forgot about the Grammys and more importantly, Grammy hair! I'm going to run down a list of my faves and flops, and you better believe I'll be posting right after the Oscars tomorrow! This is the mack daddy of awards shows. My favorite day of the year! But lets get back to Grammy. Grammy is Oscar's punk rock cousin. Grammy is the place stars come to get their crazy and fun out. It's always hit and miss at the Grammys, and this year, there were definitely some hits and some very big misses.

Let's start with the good news. My favorite hairstyle of the night was a surprise. Audrina Patridge from The Hills has the most amazing messy side bun! I am no fan of The Hills, (and as a student at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in LA-- the school Lauren Conrad attends, I am sick of the hype) but I thought she looked AMAZING. Other high notes included: Taylor Swift (who always looks fabulous), Carrie Underwood, and Miley Cyrus.

Some of the misses? Paula Abdul (is it just me or is she a permanent resident on the worst dressed lists?), Keyshia Cole, Cyndi Lauper, and Lisa Rina.

Any thoughts on Grammy hair? Stay tuned for my Oscars round up, and in the mean time, check out BellaSugar's take on Grammy fashion, beauty, and hair!

Hair Trends

Recently the Kronos team enjoyed a webinar from Happi that delved into the latest trends in hair styling.

We learned that there are some major trends that are affecting what consumers demand. Here are some highlights:

• Advances in prevention of damage and ease of use in hair coloring
• Enhancing durability by the formulation of conditioners, colors and styling products that endure shampoo after shampoo
• Styling and volumizing with natural feel

Of course we are putting these findings to work within the Kronos line and are already working on new products that are sure to rock the hair industry. We'll keep you posted here on the blog!

Kronos launches in Canada

So exiting news in the land of anti-aging hair care!

Kronos kicked off its shopping network roll-out with a launch on the The Shopping Channel in Canada on February 14. The event (which included four one- hour shows, nine hair models and an elaborate amount of hairspray) was a huge success. In fact three of the six items launched were sold out by the end of the day!

Dusty excelled not only as a master stylist but as a multi-tasker who washed, styled and transformed models between shows and captured viewer's attention with a show that was entertaining and informative at the same time. The US launch is in March, and Canada already called to have Dusty back on air in April.

Barbie Girl!!!

Growing up, I was definitely a Barbie girl. There was nothing better than getting a new Barbie and taking your old one and cutting her hair, or changing the style! My older brother used to tease me and say that I only needed Barbie for her head since all I did was play with her hair. Mattel saw how much some of us loved doing Barbie's hair, they even came out with a doll who's hair you could cut and stick back on! 2009 marks Barbie's 50th birthday, and Allure Magazine has compiled some of Barbie's most famous hairstyles. From the original blond with curly bangs, to the most popular Total Hair Barbie (with hair down to her feet!) Check out Allure's Barbie World slide show. My favorites have got to be Maxi N Mini Fashion Barbie from 1970 and 1986's Cyndi Lauper inspired Barbie!

And don't forget about the Grammy's this Sunday! I can't wait to check out the celebs, their wardrobe choices, and more importantly their hair!!!

SAG Awards

Another week, another award show. I always love the start of a new year because it means awards season! This weekend, the stars came out to celebrate each other at the 15th Annual SAG Awards. The SAG Awards are not on network TV, and are not as well known as some of the others, but the hair and fashion did not disappoint. Check out some of the best SAG looks at BellaSugar and vote on your faves! I loved Anne Hathaway's loose, wavy bob, and Emily Blunt's sleek up do! Can't wait for the Grammy's on February 8th and the Oscars on the 22nd!

Cool or Creepy?

Hi all,
Last night my new Issue of Self arrived and as usual I skipped everything I had planned to do (bills, calling my mom, folding laundry) in favor of devouring it cover to cover. Never satisfied, I still spent my lunch hour reading through Self.com and found a poll collecting opinions on all the hottest new runway and celebrity inspired beauty trends. Click here to cast your vote on what's Cool or Creepy . I was pretty ok with feathered headbands, fishtail braids, platinum streaks and black lipstick (come on it's kinda fun) but I'm violently opposed to the technicolor brows and sweaty hair. Ew! So, what's your threshold for the latest trends?

Get Golden!

For me, an award show is more than a Sunday evening with special programming, it's an all day event! I park myself on the sofa at 3pm for the star studded red carpet arrivals and only move during a commercial break. This year's Golden Globes did not dissapoint! The most beautiful celebrities from the world of televison and film showed up in their sunday best. We always focus on who the stars are wearing, but this year, it was all about the hair! Glamorous hair is something we can all do at home while the sesigner couture dresses are probably...not. Eva Longoria Parker looked amazing in her red Reem Acra dress and elegant updo, while others fell flat, like Cameron Diaz's messy nest. For all of you who want to get a Golden Globes hair style of your very own, check out BellaSugar's guide to Golden Globes hair where they tell you how to get Eva's glam updo (and others) at home!

Reinvent Yourself!

Hi all,

In high school and college I became known for my signature hair. It was long, straight, parted down the middle a la Marcia Brady. And it was...well...BORING!

At 24 something clicked and I realized that life wasn't worth living if I didn't take some changes and I've been changing my hair frequently ever since.  So now I'm always experimenting. I have a breakup, I change my hair. I get a new job, I change my hair. It's the new year, I change my hair. It's Tuesday, I change my hair. You get the idea.

And when I want to brainstorm for a new look I always check out what my favorite celebs are doing, especially those with similar hair types and face shapes to me.  Today I was pondering my next move and came across The Daily Makeover which has album after album of inspiration.

I guess the first decision is am I keeping the bangs for '09? I'll keep you posted!

xoxo,
Miss T
